Cultivating Coherence A.K.A. Healing the Heart of My Family (part 1)

Welcome back to my blog! This blog is a place that I get to share about my healing journey. This healing is happening on so many levels and in so many areas of my life. And I am excited to document this process and allow myself the creative self-expression of this process. (More on all of this to come.)
It’s been a while since I have published a blog article. On January 16th, I had given myself permission to take a little break from publishing my blog until Taoist/Chinese New Year (Happy New Year!), new moon in Aquarius, which is also known as Lunar Imbolc. Imbolc (which means Ewe’s milk) is halfway between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox and is energetically the time that the aliveness of living things, seeds in the ground and our visions are starting to quicken. The first buds/ flowers appear (in moderate climates) and in snowier climates there is a sense of a subtle shift towards spring. This is a perfect time to plant seeds of intention for our New Year/growing season…this is one reason why I resonate with the Lunar/Taoist New Year as a new beginning for goal setting for myself.
I am planning on delving into my Best Year Yet (BYY) goal setting process in the next few days so I can reflect on this last year, draw out the wisdom from the past, and vision my next journey around the sun. In the BYY system we choose three guideline to live by. The guideline that calls to me to live by, without a doubt, is one I have already begun living by. It is “cultivate coherence.”
My new enthusiastic mediation practice is the place where I get to practice and nurture this in a formal way. On most days, since October 2017 I have set aside 45 or more minutes a day to do a guided process from one of Dr. Joe Dispenza’s prerecorded meditations. Outside of this formal practice, I have ample opportunity to practice informally in my life as stressors appear and I begin to react and start to feel compressed, intense or stressed-out.
Why I am so passionate about this guideline is because I see that it is a self-care, health and well-being practice for the health of my body temple as well as for my state of mind and spirit. Coherence of both my brain waves and my heart at a physical level allows me to get out of a stress response (fight or flight).
In this state I support my autonomic nervous system (the part of the nervous system responsible for control of the bodily functions not consciously directed, such as breathing, the heartbeat, and digestive processes). I intentionally support my parasympathetic nervous system and allow my sympathetic nervous system to rest and be ready for true life threatening stressors. (The sympathetic nervous system prepares the body for intense physical activity and is often referred to as the fight-or-flight response. The parasympathetic nervous system has almost the exact opposite effect and relaxes the body and inhibits or slows many high energy functions.)
What I have learned is that when we are stressed all the time, even just from our thoughts and not “outer” circumstances, we can activate our sympathetic nervous system, or stress response. And this state of being is all about survival and NOT about thriving, healing, digesting, rebuilding, etc. Hormonally we can over tap our endocrine system, including our adrenal glands and we can send our hearts and minds (and brains) into an incoherent state.
With both my parents having experienced some form of congestive heart failure in their early eighties, I am inspired to do and be something different! I am aware of the new-ish science of epigenetics and I plan to up regulate genes for heart health and down regulate genes for heart dis-ease. I am committed, through cultivating coherence, to heal the heart of my family.
And what I am learning about this state of coherence is that it is the gateway to the quantum field, which is where (sic) all possibilities live. It is out of time and space…i.e. the rules of time or space do not apply there—past, present and future live as one. That means I can literally heal the heart of my family (past, present and future) and potentially change the course of my family’s heart health history. I am staking a claim in this possibility for myself, my Mother and Father (and all their relatives), my sister and my nephew and any other relatives that might incarnate because I have healed the heart of my family and changed the course of my family’s heart health, including my own. And I mean so much more than our physical hearts. I mean our emotional and spiritual hearts as well!
